it has you. the darkness, the gaiaphage, whatever we’re calling it. you can think you’re in control. you can smile and call yourself king. but in the end, you’re just a fish on its hook. you’re left there, with enough slack in your mouth to think you got away. but you were there, you know that you can’t escape it. all you can do is stare at everyone else, false hope in your eyes, false power. but you’ve bowed down to the new god, and it would always end like this. you knew you would die someday, because it was never about living forever, but being the last to die. watch everyone unravel around you, eyes open, more open than before. and soon it will all end. and you’ll go out in a blaze of glory, the broken audience with their eyes on you as you kill yourself for power. for a legacy. a story. just do it already, boy, because the crown doesn’t last forever.
