whew, where do i begin? i guess there’s not much i can really say because everything we know about luke is from percy’s point of view, & if percy thinks luke is evil just because, then that’s what we’ll see ; what we’ll believe ( similar to harry’s biased view of slytherins & the fact that we only see a handful but they’re always the awful ones ). in a way it’s the unreliable narrator story : we’re only getting one person’s point of view on things & that just natural skews what we’re gonna see & interpret.
i guess what i don’t like canonically is how little riordan truly seems to care for luke ( though i feel that changed slightly in the demigod diaries ), especially after the series. i get that it’s over, that he’s dead, but that doesn’t mean you can’t give us tidbit information a la jk rowling. what’s luke’s birthday? what was his motivation in life? will he ever get to the isle of the blessed? how the fuck are we meant to interpret that question to annabeth? would he have conceded to thalia if pushed just a little more? how much was he really there during the entirety of the series? i feel like we didn’t get closure : may castellan didn’t get closure, & i feel like that’s a big part of a character’s canon. i don’t need answers to everything, fine, but i don’t like how he just seemed to be done & dusted & never going back to luke again sans a few mentions.
but again, i can’t really pick at his canon because it’s all from percy’s point of view rather than that of an omniscient narrator. but i don’t like how it’s implied that luke didn’t care for his mother ; he cared for her so. fucking. much.
if you’re going to talk to me about my canon portrayal grievances, may castellan is where it hits me hard.
